Important Note

Every effort has been made to incorporate accurate information with YM Digital Makeover Magic. However, the periodic revision of the software may result in some features in your version of YM Digital Makeover Magic being different to those documented in the printed manual . We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please refer to the Online Help if there are any discrepancies between the printed manual and the program.

Minimum System Requirements

YM Digital Makeover Magic requires:

  • 166 MHz Pentium PC with MMX
  • Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE
  • 32 megabytes of RAM
  • 80 megabytes of hard drive space for YM Digital Makeover Magic
  • 50 megabytes of hard drive space for Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and DirectX 6.1 (if required)

General Problems and their Solutions

Makeover project file type

The default file type for your Makeover project is a Project File (*.PZP).

When creating a Slide Show and adding a slide, the Add photo to Slide Show dialog defaults to the My Pictures folder looking for all image formats. If you want to create a Slide Show of your saved makeovers, you need to change to the Saved Makeovers folder and change the file type from All Image Formats to Project File (*.PZP) in order to see your saved makeovers.

Display Optimization / Changing Display settings

The optimum setting to run YM Digital Makeover Magic is 24-bit color. A minimum resolution of 800 by 600 pixels is required.

To change your display settings:

In Windows 95 or Windows 98, right-click on the desktop background, select Properties from the menu, then click the Settings Tab. In the Color palette box, select High Color (16-bit) or higher. In the desktop area box, move the slider to at least 800 by 600 pixels. Click Apply, and then OK. If necessary, follow the directions for restarting your computer.

Out of memory/Disk space messages

YM Digital Makeover Magic uses space on your hard drive while working to store large amounts of image data. These temporary files are removed when YM Digital Makeover Magic closes. YM Digital Makeover Magic also checks and warns when drive space is low. YM Digital Makeover Magic cannot start when there is less than 30 megabytes of hard drive space available. YM Digital Makeover Magic warns that it may have problems working with large makeover projects when the hard drive space available is between 30 and 50 megabytes. When the available space is between 50 and 100 megabytes, YM Digital Makeover Magic simply warns that disk space is getting low.

Note: These messages will not appear on systems using Windows 95 version 4.00.950 and 4.00.950a due to a technical limitation in the operating system. This problem was resolved in later versions of Windows 95.

This feature only supports MAPI compatible mail programs.

On Windows 98 systems, YM Digital Makeover Magic may not accurately detect the settings of a MAPI compatible mail client, hence the E-mail command may be erroneously enabled. Executing the E-mail command in this situation may cause your computer to stop responding. If this happens, the computer must be reset or turned off.

Undo/Redo limitations

YM Digital Makeover Magic provides multiple undo/redo levels in most areas of the program. The number of undo/redo levels is restricted only by the available memory and hard drive space available on the system. To conserve memory and hard drive space while using YM Digital Makeover Magic, the undo/redo stack is cleared whenever you save your Makeover project.

Display problems

Many display problems can be corrected by updating the video drivers for your video display card.

If you are encountering display problems, be sure to check with the manufacturer of the video card or their Web page to see if later versions of the drivers are available. If so, install the new drivers and retry the operation within YM Digital Makeover Magic.

Using NetNanny with YM Digital Makeover Magic

NetNanny will not block web pages while using YM Digital Makeover Magic's integrated Browser. A solution to this problem has not been found.

Removing all Shared files while uninstalling YM Digital Makeover Magic disables the Kodak DC260 TWAIN functions

If you have a Kodak DC260 and had installed Kodak's TWAIN drivers, choosing to remove all shared files while uninstalling YM Digital Makeover Magic will remove the Kodak TWAIN drivers as well. In order to use your Kodak DC260 with TWAIN in other software applications, you will need to re-install Kodak's TWAIN drivers. To avoid this problem, do not choose to remove all shared files when uninstalling YM Digital Makeover Magic.

Camera and Scanner Information

Downloading photos from digital cameras

While downloading photos from digital cameras, it is strongly recommended to operate the camera while connected via the camera power adapter. Downloading photos while running the camera with the internal batteries may result in file corruption if the batteries are running low on power.

Directly supported Digital Cameras

YM Digital Makeover Magic directly supports the following digital cameras:

  • Sanyo Camera – DSC-V1 (S), DSC-X1 (N), DSC-V100 (S), DSC-X100 (N) and DSC-SX1Z
  • Kodak DC50
  • Kodak DC120
  • Kodak DC210
  • Kodak DC220
  • Kodak DC260
  • Agfa ePhoto
  • Olympus D-320L (same as model C-820L in Europe)
  • Epson PhotoPC 550 & 600

Note: The model numbers listed above may not apply to all countries. Contact your local camera retailer for the most up to date information.

Note: Photos from the Kodak DC50 camera cannot be deleted from within YM Digital Makeover Magic.

Note: If you own a digital camera that is not listed here, then you must acquire your photos from this camera using it's TWAIN driver. To acquire photos from a digital camera using TWAIN, go to the Scanner section in the program. Although the text says Select a scanner, the list contains all the TWAIN drivers installed on your computer. Your digital camera TWAIN driver should be listed here. To acquire a photo from your digital camera, select the appropriate TWAIN driver and click the Scan button. Please see the section below for more information on TWAIN drivers.

If you encounter problems while trying to access one of the cameras listed above, visit our website http://www.mgisoft.com/ for more information about updates.

TWAIN scanner and camera information

YM Digital Makeover Magic supports devices which implement the TWAIN interface. Be sure to check with your camera or scanner documentation to verify that it supports this interface.

Many digital cameras do not install TWAIN driver software by default. If your camera does not show up in the list on the Digital Camera (TWAIN) page, check to make sure that the camera's TWAIN software is installed. Many camera manufacturers have TWAIN drivers you can download from their Web sites.

Many camera and scanner problems can be corrected by updating the software that comes with the camera or scanner.

If you are encountering scanning or camera problems, be sure to check with the manufacturer of the device or their Web page to see if later versions of the software or drivers are available. If so, install that software and retry the operation within YM Digital Makeover Magic.

By default, YM Digital Makeover Magic acquires images using the TWAIN file transfer method. To force YM Digital Makeover Magic to use the TWAIN memory transfer method, run the file "MemoryTranfer.reg" found on the YM Digital Makeover Magic CD in the Support folder. To run it, simply double-click the file name, and click OK in the messages that appear. This often solves certain TWAIN scanner problems. Run the file "FileTranfer.reg" to switch back to the other method.

Online Issues

Sending large files via E-mail

Some online services limit the size of e-mails that you can send or receive. This limit varies depending on the service provider, but typically is between 1 and 2 megabytes. Because your digital makeover projects can be quite large, you may occasionally have problems sending makeover projects or slide shows.

If you're sending a makeover project:

  • Send your makeover project as a JPEG file using the Send file as JPEG command found in the Send e-mail dialog which appears when you click the E-mail your Makeover button. The file size of a JPEG is much smaller than the Makeover format and can be viewed by many other applications, in case your friend doesn't have YM Digital Makeover Magic.

If you're sending a slide show:

  • Reduce the number of slides in the slide show.
